Professional life
Following his participation in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, MacGinty was enlisted by Connacht for the 2015–16 Pro12 campaign. The province has been keeping an eye on MacGinty since the Pacific Nations Cup earlier this year, according to Connacht’s head coach Pat Lam. In Connacht’s 33-19 victory over Benetton Treviso on November 6, 2015, MacGinty made his domestic debut by playing the second half as a substitute.
On November 14, 2015, MacGinty made his European debut in the Challenge Cup’s opening game, starting at fly-half and scoring nine points. In order to oversee Connacht’s fifth straight victory and maintain the Pro12 lead, MacGinty “controlled matters well” during the team’s 28-23 bonus point victory over Edinburgh in March 2016. He played a key role in Connacht’s Pro12 championship victory, which gave them their first-ever trophy.
In May 2015, it was reported that MacGinty will join English Premiership team Sale Sharks after his contract with Connacht expired in the summer.
