Bynum attended Metuchen, New Jersey’s St. Joseph High School. He spent the most of his first year at West Windsor Plainsboro High School North in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
Andrew spent the remaining two years of his first and second years at Solebury School in Solebury, Pennsylvania.
He had a double-double in the 2005 McDonald’s All-American game with nine points and five rebounds.
However, the 17-year-old chose to enter the NBA right immediately and declared himself eligible for the 2005 NBA draft, when the Los Angeles Lakers took him. He had originally planned to attend the University of Connecticut on a basketball scholarship.

In the 2005 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers picked Bynum with the 10th overall choice. He was 12 days younger than Jermaine O’Neal, who at 17 years and 244 days was the previous youngest player selected by an NBA team.
Bynum was an even more crucial piece of the jigsaw when the Lakers won their second straight championship in 2010, keeping largely healthy and averaging a career-high 15 points per game.
Two years later, Bynum enjoyed his best season, averaging 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds, and earning his first and only NBA All-Star selection.

Bynum’s knees reportedly started to deteriorate after he hadn’t played since the end of February.
He acknowledged on March 1 that he might not be able to play by the end of the season due to swelling in his right knee, but insisted that his left knee was okay.
Bynum’s time with the 76ers came to an end without him playing a single game as he underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery on both knees on March 19.
