Charles Jenkins is a professional basketball player from the United States. After completing his four-year college career with the Hofstra Pride, he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the 2011 NBA draft.

Childhood and Family
The basketball player was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 28, 1989. Charles Jenkins Sr. is his father, and Patricia Jenkins is his mother.
Kareem Albritton was Charles’s older brother. Charles has a younger sister as well.
Jenkins’ father and brother were the ones who encouraged him to start playing basketball. Charles was a basketball player in college and then the Navy.
Similarly, his brother enjoyed basketball and played in high school. They were the ones who sparked Charles’ interest in it!
Brother’s Death
On November 2, 2001, Charles’s older brother, Kareem Albritton, was shot and killed in Brooklyn. Charles was only 12 years old at the time.
His brother’s death shattered him.
He struggled to come to terms with his brother’s death. The player encountered numerous difficulties. He was uninterested in school or basketball.
Jenkins was only thinking about his brother’s daughter, his niece. He wanted to spend as much time with her as possible.
For about a year, the player was nearly invisible, unable to focus on anything. Charles’ grades also declined to the point where his former school had to expel him.
Charles attended Holy Cross High School. Due to his grades, he was assigned to Springfield Gardens High School.
Springfield was a notorious New York public high school. It was one of the worst schools in New York at the time! However, because Charles had fallen far behind in his studies, it was the only one who would accept him.
From Failed Student to Successful Student!
Charles quickly made up for his failing grades at Springfield Garden. Jenkins claims that his parents helped him put everything together.
They did an excellent job and were completely supportive of the player. They also realized how important it was for Charles to get an education and get on the right track.
Something ‘deeper,’ however, compelled the player to complete a complete 180-degree turn. Charles claims that when his brother died, he witnessed his mother’s grief.
Furthermore, the player was adding to her anguish by failing school. So he decided he didn’t want to do that to her anymore. Charles didn’t want to disappoint her, and he didn’t want to continue ‘breaking’ her heart because she was already dealing with the loss of a son.
So the player promised himself that he would do everything in his power to treat her well. It had nothing to do with basketball at all.
The player simply wanted to do well in school, get good grades, and make a positive contribution to his family.

Early Career of Charles Jenkins
Charles spent three years in high school playing basketball.
Jenkins averaged 21.1 points, 7.2 assists, and 5.1 rebounds in 2005-06, earning him a spot on the New York Post’s All-New York City Team.
At Springfield, the player not only improved his grades, but he also became a role model for student-athletes!
For his undergraduate studies, the player attended Hofstra University. He continued his outstanding play (on and off the court) into college.
The player earned a degree in “Arts and Speech Communication” three months early and went on to become a Hofstra University Pride basketball legend!
Jenkins was named Metropolitan New York Rookie of the Year, CAA Rookie of the Year, and Third Team All-Metropolitan New York. In 2008-09, the player also received numerous awards.
The coveted Haggerty Award, given annually to the best Division I men’s basketball player in the greater New York Metropolitan area, was among them.
Jenkins also improved the majority of his season averages as a junior in 2009-10. Individually, he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Year.

Aside from his parents and sister, Charles was particularly fond of his niece, Kemoni, the daughter of his tragically deceased brother.
When Charles was in college, Kemoni was about 11 years old. She grew up in a rough neighborhood where education was not a priority. The area was plagued by gangs and a high crime rate.
He knew that if he got the opportunity to play professionally, he’d be able to provide her with financial security and a better life. The player had always imagined that if he became wealthy enough, he would be able to support her as she grew older.

NBA Professional Basketball Career
Charles was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the second round (44th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft. Due to the 2011 NBA lockout, he signed with the Italian team Teramo Basket of the Lega Basket Serie A on November 24, 2011.
The lockout, however, was over in two weeks, and he left Teramo without having played a single game for the club. On December 9, 2011, the player officially signed with the Warriors.
On December 25, 2011, he made his NBA debut against the Los Angeles Clippers in the Warriors’ 2011-12 season opener. He appeared briefly in the competition and finished with one assist in one minute of action.
After settling into a backup role to starting point guard Steph Curry, rookie Charles found himself with unexpected opportunities in the second half of the season due to Curry’s persistent ankle injuries.
Despite the fact that the team brought in Nate Robinson early in the lockout-shortened season to take most of Curry’s backup point guard minutes, Charles ended up starting frequently in place of the injured Curry.
Charles’ minutes increased significantly after Steph was ruled out for the rest of the season and Monta Ellis was traded. On February 21, 2013, the player was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a second-round draft pick.
Europe
On July 30, 2013, Charles signed a one-year contract with Crvena zvezda Belgrade. In January 2014, the player extended his contract with Crvena Zvezda for another season.
In the 2014-15 season, Crvena Zvezda won the Adriatic League, the Serbian League, and the Radivoj Kora Cup. On July 8, 2015, the player signed a contract with Italian club Emporio Armani Milano for the 2015-16 season.
Charles, on the other hand, returned to Crvena Zvezda on July 15, 2016, signing a two-year contract. The player led the Euro League and was named the ABA League Playoffs MVP in 2017.
On June 29, 2017, Charles signed a two-year contract with Russian club Khimki. In 2018, he played basketball for HBC Sicklerville in a tournament.
Jenkins also signed a two-year deal with Crvena Zvezda on July 5, 2019. This season marked his third with Zvezda. Jenkins signed a contract with the Greek EuroLeague club Olympiacos on June 20, 2020.
