Everyone immediately thinks of Conseslus Kipruto when the phrase “King of the Steeple” is used. He is a long-distance professional runner from Kenya.

He currently dominates the majority of the events in the world event’s steeplechase over 3000 meters.

Additionally, he captured the World Championship in 2017 and 2019. In addition, from 2016 to 2019, he won the Diamond League title in the 3000m steeplechase.

He set an Olympic record in winning the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio by finishing in 8:03.28.

Kipruto’s private life has been the subject of numerous disputes and events. It hasn’t significantly affected his professional career, though.

Conseslus Kipruto was born in Eldoret, Kenya, on December 8, 1994. He and his four siblings were reared by a single mother during his formative years.

He played football growing up and looked up to Didger Drogba. But his uncle Cleophus insisted that he give track a shot.

Incidents and Scandals

A 20-year-old woman filed a lawsuit against Conseslus Kipruto in 2016 alleging child neglect. She also said that they were dating between 2015 and 2016.

He was accused of abandoning his ex-battle wife’s and declining to take on the role of their son’s father.

Similar to how Kirputo was charged and detained for having sex with a 15-year-old juvenile in 2020, in November of that year.

He later entered a plea of not guilty and was freed after posting $1,800 bail.

Kipruto was involved in an automobile accident in 2018. He accidentally struck a tractor with his SUV, but he was unharmed.

Similarly, in 2020, after Kipruto introduced his new girlfriend, pictures of her became viral on social media.

Most of the ladies in his native town did not like her since she was from another country, but the men applauded him for paving the way for international relationships.

How did Conseslus Kipruto Start His Career?

In 2010, Conseslus Kipruto started out by participating in the steeplechase’s junior divisions.

At the Kenyan Youth Trials, he won the 2000-meter steeplechase race with a time of 5:29.3.

Later, he made it possible for Kenya to participate in the 2011 World Youth Athletics Championships, which were held in Lille Metropole, France.

Kipruto and Gilbert Kiplangat Kirui, one of his colleagues, were able to establish a good lead early on in the finals.

He finished the race in a personal-best time of 8:03.49, earning his first senior gold at the competition. His timing earned him a spot as the second-best junior of all time.

After winning the Internacional Juan Muguerza in 2013, Kipruto was able to compete for Kenya on the national cross-country squad.

However, his sixth-place finish at the Kenyan trials earned him a spot on the junior team.

He came in sixth in the junior 8k men’s race during the world championship finals.

He won the Diamond League opener in Shanghai with a meet record time of 8:01.16 to start the 2013 season.

Later, he was able to add two more victories at the 2013 Diamond League in the USA and Norway.

Olympic Champion

Kipruto didn’t indicate that he was going to slow down. On the other hand, he has dominated every 3000m steeplechase competition since 2016.

He was successful in winning in Doha and Rabat in May of 2016.

He also triumphed in Rome and Birmingham in June. In addition, he finished the 3000m steeplechase in 8:00.12, a personal best, in the British Grand Prix.

He succeeded in winning the races in Monaco and Brussels the following month.

Later, he lost to 2008 Olympic gold medallist Brimin Kiputo in the Kenyan Olympic trials, handing him his lone loss of the outdoor season.

But at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, he did so by taking first place in Heat 3.

Conseslus Kipruto won the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase event on August 17, 2016. Moreover, he broke an Olympic record by running in 8:03.28.

World Champion

He was only able to capture a gold medal at the 2017 Diamond League in Rome and Brussels.

But Kipruto triumphed at the 2017 World Championship in London, United Kingdom.

After winning two consecutive silver medals, he finally won his first gold at the finals with a time of 8:14.12.

He won the 3000m steeplechase race at the Commonwealth Games to start the following season. Once more, he finished in 8:10.08.

He later won gold at Roma, Birmingham, and Zurich during the Diamond League.

In addition, Kipruto captured the 2018 Diamond League championship at the Weltklasse by winning the 3000m steeplechase in 8:10.15, barely one second better than El Balkkalis.

Due to his accusation of having sex with a juvenile, Kirputo has been unable to fully train. As a result of inadequate training time, he was out of shape.

Later, due to fitness concerns, he was unable to finish the steeplechase race at the Kenya Olympics Trails and quit after only two laps. Kipruto was consequently ejected from the national Olympic team.

The Kenyan squad, however, has not made a decision regarding his future and he could return as a wildcard to the Olympics to defend his title.
