Season 2013

Desmond was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was the third cornerback chosen, following Dee Milliner (overall: 9th) and D.J. Hayden (overall: 12th).

On July 24, 2013, he agreed to a four-year contract worth $8.16 million. The contract also featured a guaranteed $6.94 million and a $4.31 million signing bonus.

Because the Falcons’ training camp was overrun with cornerbacks, Trufant had to compete for a spot on the squad. He battled for the two cornerback slots against Robert McClain, Asante Samuel, and Robert Alford.
