Eduardo Salvio is an Argentine professional football player who competes for the Argentina national team and the Portuguese club Benfica as a striker or right winger. He was selected to play in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and was a member of Argentina’s national team in 2009.

Professional Life

At the age of 17, Eduardo Salvio made his debut with Lanus in the 2007 Apertura, however he did not participate in any games. On August 24, 2008, he made his team debut against Boca Juniors. He went on to become the joint-leading scorer for Lanus in the 2008–09 Argentine Primera Division with nine goals. Salvio joined Atletico Madrid in 2010, and after a shaky beginning, he became a consistent right winger. On April 25, they defeated Tenerife 3-1 at home, and he scored his first goal for the team.

In May 2010, Salvio consented to sign with both Benfica and Atletico Madrid. Thus, Benfica forked over €2.5 million to acquire 20% of his playing rights. Salvio scored 13 goals for Benfica during the 2012–13 S.L. Benfica season after being permanently joined to the club in 2012 for €11 million. Salvio was chosen for his first team, Club Atletico Lanus, in the 2007 Apertura of the Argentine Primera Division at the age of just 17. However, he didn’t play in any of their games. He was given the opportunity to play his first game for Lanus the following year, against Boca Juniors, on August 24.

He scored his first goal ever against Argentinos Juniors two months later in a 4-2 victory. Along with playing club football, Salvio represented Argentina at the 2009 South American Youth Championship while playing for the Argentina U17 and U20 teams. He played four games with the under-17 team in which he only managed one goal, and nine games with the under-20 team in which he managed four goals.
