He joined the Estudiantes youth team in 2009, where he also started his professional career and also advanced through the junior divisions of Estudiantes before being elevated to the first-team squad in 2012 and also made his professional debut on April 9, 2013, in a 1-0 loss against Arsenal Sarandi. Geronimo made 12 appearances for the squad during the 2012–2013 campaign, including 8 shutouts across all competitions.
He participated in 38 games for the squad in 2013–14, recording 18 shutouts across all competitions. On July 24, 2014, Deportivo Maldonado, which had bought the player’s rights a month earlier, loaned him for a year to Real Sociedad. He made his club debut on August 28, 2014, starting and being replaced in the 85th minute of a 0-3 away defeat against Krasnodar in the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League due to an ankle injury.
After coming back into the game in November,
he made his La Liga debut for the team on December 20, 2014, in an away draw against Levante that ended in a 1-1 tie. He made 26 appearances while on loan with Real Sociedad in 2014–15, keeping 8 clean sheets in all competitions.
His loan was extended for another year on July 4, 2015, during which time he made 37 appearances for the team and recorded 14 shutouts across all competitions. He was acquired by Manchester City on July 19, 2016, for a sum of £4 million. Prior to joining Real Sociedad permanently in January 2017, he was swiftly loaned back to them.
