Early Life, Education & Family | Iman Shumpert

To start with the basics, Iman was born to parents Odis and L’Tanya Shumpert in Berwyn, Illinois, on June 26, 1990.

Three brothers exist for Shumpert. During his childhood, he and his brother played basketball a lot, and he was always the superior player.

Iman decided on basketball in the eighth grade, where he competed at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School alongside NBA friend Evan Turner.

Iman was born into an educated household; her mother teaches art and design at Columbia University, while her father is an insurance broker.

Additionally, he decides to attend Oak Park and River Forest High School for his secondary schooling. During his high school basketball career, he contributed to three conference championships for Oak Park and River Forest.

Knicks of New York

Shumpert was traded by the New York Knicks along with the 17th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Due to his knee injury, he was unable to attend the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest.

He suffered a knee injury against the Miami Heat on April 28 and required immediate medical attention. The accident caused his ACL and meniscus to tear, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season.

In addition, he was the only rookie to be nominated for Defensive Player of the Year.

Later in 2013, when his injury was fully healed, he was permitted to take part in team practice. On January 17, he made his season debut in London against the Detroit Pistons.
