On his horse, Black Jack, he attempted to cross the Duck River that day in the late evening at the family’s Tennessee ranch. Sadly, he was never successful. Nearby in the water, his lifeless body was discovered. How did that come about?

He apparently slipped and ended up hitting his head, rendering him unconscious, and as a result, he drowned dead when crossing the stream, according to Findagrave, while riding his horse across a tiny creek that ran through his parents’ land.
