Tapper was raised in Queen Village, where his mother was a retired psychiatric nurse and his father was a professor at Jefferson Medical College.


Regarding academic requirements, Tapper enrolled in the Merion, Pennsylvania-based Akiba Hebrew Academy. Later, he received a Bachelor’s degree in history with a visual studies modification from Dartmouth College. The University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television was another institution that Tapper attended.

In 2004, while Jake was covering the Iowa caucuses for Good Morning America, he first met his wife at a hotel bar.

“I knew I wasn’t going to continue since it was the day before the caucuses and all the heavy hitters had flown in. I left with my producer after that. We suggested going to the Kerry campaign headquarters since that is where the party would be when [John] Kerry won. And when I entered the Hotel Fort Des Moines, Jennifer was there.

According to what Tapper said in his interview with the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.

Added he,

“I approached her when I saw her, and the next day we went out in D.C., and that was it.”

Since their union, Jake and his bride have had a son named Jack Tapper Jr. and a daughter named Alice Paul Tapper. Alice, a daughter of Jake and Jennifer, is the author of the picture book Raise Your Hand.
