James Geoffrey Ian Norton, also known as James Norton, was born to a family of teachers on July 18, 1985, in London, England. His father, Hugh B. Norton, was a lecturer at Hull School of Art and Design, while his mother, Lavinia J. Norton, worked as a teacher in a secondary school. Jessica Norton, his younger sister, is a physician.

Hugh, Norton’s father, enjoys acting as well, and now that he is retired, he frequently works as an extra in his son’s films. Audiences are growing increasingly receptive to his appearances, and he is becoming as a celebrity in his own right.

Norton is one-sixth Ashkenazi Jewish and has English, Irish, Scottish, Cornish, and other origins. He is distantly connected to former UK Prime Minister David Cameron on his mother’s side. He is also the Great-grandson of Vice-Admiral Horace Geoffrey Norman, an Allied Warship Commander, and Hugh Ross Norton, the Archdeacon of Sudbury.
