He then drove himself to the ER, where the doctor informed him that he had been having a heart attack for the last 12 hours. James expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to share his experience.

“I was in the angio lab within a few hours, and they were threading a tube from my right wrist into an artery in my heart. The physicians cleared one artery and put a stint to keep it open. The other artery was solid, but my body had formed collateral vessels to feed itself, so it now receives adequate blood supply.”

Pumphrey went on to say that he had particularly awful cardiac genetics because his father died from the same ailments, and his sister, Mary, had a similar experience when she was 30. Following the successful procedure, James sees this as a second chance to turn things around. He also expressed gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses, and techs at UCLA Medical Center for saving his life.
