Remy had quit his job as a NESN Red Sox game analyst on August 4 in order to receive cancer treatment. He explained at the time:

“I will fight this with everything I have, like I have before and will continue to do so.”

John Henry, the owner of the Red Sox, paid respect to Remy by saying:

We mourn the passing of a cherished athlete, broadcaster, and 13-year cancer survivor. Jerry’s passion for baseball and connection to the sport prevented anything, including long-term disease, from getting in the way.

His family has not yet made an official announcement regarding his funeral.

Remy spent his first three seasons in the major league, starting in 1975, with the California Angels. From 1978 until 1984, he played second base for the Red Sox. He had a.275 batting average overall, 140 doubles, 7 home runs, 38 triples, and 399 RBIs.
