John Vincent Calipari is a basketball coach from the United States. He has been the head coach of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team since 2009, and he led them to the NCAA Championship in 2012. In the early to mid-1980s, John Calipari started his coaching career at the University of Kansas. He began as the “lowest coach in the pecking order,” doing nothing more complicated than clearing the training table of trash and completing other menial jobs. By the late 1980s, John was assisting Roy Chipman and Roy Evans at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1988, he was named the University of Massachusetts’ head coach.

The coach led the Minutemen to five consecutive Atlantic 10 championships and NCAA Tournament appearances while serving as head coach. John made a comeback to college football in 2000 by taking the helm at the University of Memphis. At this time, Vance Walberg created the “dribble push” motion offense, which he popularized.
