Jon Jones, sometimes known as Jonathan Dwight “Bones” Jones, is an American mixed martial artist. He is well-known in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and owns many records (UFC).

One of the greatest MMA fighters is Jon, according to many. From the time of his UFC debut in 2008 until his departure from the division in 2020, he ruled the Light Heavyweight weight class.

In addition, Jones owns the distinction for being the UFC Champion at the youngest age ever.

“Bones” competes at light-heavyweight yet has the longest reach in the UFC.

Jon Jones’ unconventional maneuvers made him a show-stopper throughout his MMA career. He displayed unusual kicks, back elbow spins, and powerful takedowns.

Bones has also attracted attention for a variety of reasons. However, he has always been a divisive figure due to his accomplishments in sports and in the legal system.

Childhood And Family

Jon was born on July 19, 1987, to Camille Jones and Arthur Jones Jr. in Rochester, New York.

Jones’ mother worked as a nurse, and her father is the pastor of a pentecostal church in Endicott, New York.

Chandler Jones and Arthur Jones III are Jones’ two brothers. Both Chandler and Arthur were former professional American football players.

In 2017, Jone’s mother Camille lost the fight against diabetes and passed away.

Not to mention that Carmen, his older sister, passed away from a brain tumor when she was 18 years old.

Education

Upstate New York’s Union-Endicott High School was where Jon attended. As a high school wrestler, he rose to the occasion and claimed the title.

The soccer coach dubbed him “Bones” because of his thin build, and the moniker has stayed.

Jones continued to wrestle in Lowa Centre Community College after graduating from high school. He was crowned the national JUCO champion there.

The fighter afterwards enrolled at Morrisville State College to seek a criminal justice degree.

Unfortunately, he was unable to finish the course since mixed martial arts was his actual passion and he wanted to concentrate on turning it into a career.

What is the Physical Measurement of Jones?

Every year on July 19, Jon has his birthday. His zodiac sign is therefore cancer.

In 2022, he will be 35 years old and a towering 6 feet 4 inches tall.

Jones, who has a slim, athletic frame, weighs about 93 kg.

How did Jon Jones Start His Career?

On August 9, 2008, Jones, who had a 7-0 record going into the UFC, agreed to a last-minute bout against Andre Gusmao. He was a replacement fighter, but he made the most of the chance to show off his abilities.

On January 31, 2009, he competed in the UFC against the skilled veteran Stephen Bonnar. Unfortunately, because Jones entered the battle as the underdog, the fight was not even close between the two competitors.

However, “Bones” demonstrated that evening that he could take on a seasoned fighter with his amazing spinning back elbow and suplex. As a result, Jon received a unanimous decision victory.

He defeated both Brandon Vera and Vladimir Matyushenko in 2012, winning his first title in the process against three-champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

The most difficult match Jon Jones has ever participated in, in his opinion, was his September 23, 2013, UFC 165 contest with Swedish fighter Alexander Gustafson. Both had swelling in their faces and lacerations, but Jones won the prize.

On July 29, 2017, Jones had one of the notable victories. At UFC 214 in Anaheim, California, he defeated Daniel Cormier. He was in floods of joy after an amazing victory over his deserving foe.

Jones won the championship in 2018 by defeating Alexander Gustafson following the lifting of his 2017 suspension.

Jones willingly gave up the championship in 2020 due to a pay disagreement with UFC president White and stated his intention to move up to heavyweight as the reason.

Controversies

The United States Anti-Doping Agency charged the mixed martial arts athlete of possibly violating drug laws (USADA). Both the test results for the “B” sample and the Turinabol test for him were positive.

Jones was consequently excluded from a number of games. He even had to give up the Light Heavyweight belt and faced a four-year suspension.

After a night of drinking, Jon slammed his automobile into a pole in Binghamton, New York, on May 19, 2012, resulting in a minor collision.

After Jones resisted taking a sobriety test, police took him into custody. Two months later, he was informed that he must pay a $1,000 fine and that his driver’s license will be suspended for six months.

Similarly, Jon was embroiled in a significant scandal in 2014. He was fined $50,000 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NCAC) for fighting Daniel Cormier during a UFC 178 press conference.

Additionally, he received 40 hours of community service assignments.

After New Mexico police made claims, Jones became the main suspect in a hit-and-run incident in the early months of 2015. He was unable to compete against Anthony Johnson that year as a result.

He received an 18-month term for the act, and the UFC later took away his belt. Jones was charged for tweeting homophobic epithets to a Swedish fan on Instagram in 2014.

Jon was detained once more in March 2020 on suspicion of DUI and careless firearm use.

The Youngest UFC Champion

At the age of 23, Jon Jones won the UFC championship. Jones put up a stellar performance, though, in his fight for the Light Heavyweight title at UFC 128 on March 19, 2011, against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

He won 205 lbs. via a third-round TKO victory over Shogun. With this, Jones became the youngest UFC champion in history, a record that hasn’t been surpassed.

In the fight, Jon attacks the champion with spinning kicks, elbows, and anything else one could think of. He used what could only be regarded as excessively justifiable force to finish off Mauricio on the ground.

Fighting Style of Jon Jones

One of the best at managing distance is Bones. He measures the distance while using his hands to battle his opponent.

Jon can be easily caught by a few opponents because his skills are so powerful. But it frequently hits them in the eye and is challenging to stop.

Overall, Jon Jones is a skilled fighter with few weaknesses to his repertoire.

Jon Jone & Matt Hamill

In December 2009, Jones lost a battle to Matt Hamill by disqualification, sparking a number of issues and disputes.

Jon employed a devastating elbow technique (12-6) in which the elbow is brought in as if to punch the opponent.

Due to the UFC’s rule on this move, referee Steve Mazzagatti stopped the fight and awarded Matt Hamill the victory.

Dana White, the president of the UFC, expressed his dismay at the choice by putting an elbow to the floor, from which they understood Jone’s meaning. He also made it apparent that Hamill’s shoulder injury, not Jone’s elbow, was what prevented him from continuing the battle.

In the struggle with Jon, Hamill dislocated his shoulder. Unfortunately, referee Steve failed to anticipate it, therefore Jones’ record will always reflect this defeat.

Given that Jone has never lost a fight, the defeat is controversial on his record.

What is the Relationship Status of Jon Jones?

In 2013, Jon wed Jessie Moses. Leah (born in 2008), Carmen Nicole Jones, and Olivia Haven are the couple’s three kids.

The two had been together for 17 years as well. Jessie was born in Endicott, New York, in 1987 and is a native of that city. According to reports, the couple met while attending Endicott High School and soon after began dating.

Jones began pursing an MMA career in 2008 while Jessie and Jones were expecting their first child.

In 2009, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Carmen, and in 2013, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Olivia.

After Jon’s sister, who passed away following a fight with brain cancer, Carmen was given that name.

How was the Networth Value of Jon Jones?

Jon has engaged in combat almost 26 times, with one defeat and 0 victories to his credit. It’s not surprising that “Bones” has a far higher net worth than other UFC competitors given his great accomplishments.

Online sources estimate Jon Jones’s total UFC career earnings to be $7,230,000.

The sum, however, is based on a fight-by-fight breakdown of Jones’ career earnings and excludes bonuses, sponsorships, and other incentive payments.

Jon became the first UFC fighter to secure a global sponsorship agreement with Nike. Although this is a noteworthy accomplishment, his other sponsorship agreements with the multinational corporation did not survive very long.

Jones has a total net worth of $12 million.
