On December 27, 1990, Jonathan Marchessault was born in Cap-Rouge, Quebec, Canada.

Jonathan Audy-Marchessault is his birth name, however at the start of the 2013–14 season, he eliminated the “Audy” from his name.

Jonathan Marchessault signed his first professional deal with the Connecticut Whale of the New York Rangers’ American Hockey League after Dean Stork’s advice (AHL).

As a result, Marchessault joined Ryan Bourque and Kelsey Tessier, who were also teammates at Rempart. Marchessault joined the Whales in 2011–12 and soon made his professional debut.

On October 9, 2011, Marchessault played in his second professional game and beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with a game-winning penalty shot.
