Born Belinda Boyd, Khalilah met Muhammad for the first time when he was at the peak of his career and she was 10 years old. By the time she turned 17, her marriage was arranged with Muhammad Ali.

Khaliah and Spencer originally met at a Penn Annenberg Center event in 1997 through a mutual friend. They formed a strong bond following their first meeting and married a year later in 1998.
