In July 2011, Lee Kang-in enrolled in Valencia’s academy for the first time. After an absence of six years, Lee was then called up to Valencia B (Mestalla) on December 15, 2017.
On November 21, 2017, Lee made his team debut against Deportivo Aragon. He competed in his second match against Llagostera on February 17, 2018. On May 6, 2018, Kang-in scored the team’s first goal.


He participated in the team’s 2018–2019 season, making his debut on October 30, 2018, against Ebro. He made history by becoming the youngest Korean footballer to make his pro debut in Europe. Lee made his La Liga debut on January 12th against Real Valladolid, which resulted in a 1-1 tie. At age 16, 11 months, and 24 days, Lee overtook Ander Barrenetxea as the second-youngest player in the 18-19 La Liga. He also made history by becoming the fifth Korean to play in La Liga, the first Asian league début for Valencia, and the youngest non-Spanish player ever.

On January 30, 2019, the young footballer formally joined Valencia’s first team and was given the number 16. On September 17, 2019, Lee played in his first UEFA Champions League match against Chelsea. At the age of 18 years and 6 months, he made his competition debut, becoming the youngest Korean to do so. Lee scored his first La Liga goal against Getafe on September 25, 2019.

At the age of 18 years and 219 days, he scored the goal to become Valencia’s youngest non-Spanish scorer. Yunus Musah, an American teammate, broke the record. At the age of 19 years and 207 days, Lee became the youngest player to ever assist two goals in a La Liga game against Levante on September 13, 2020. He canceled his contract with Valencia on August 29, 2021, during his 2021–2022 season.


Lee signed a four-year contract with La Liga club Mallorca on August 30, 2021, and the club confirmed his free transfer. Lee scored his first goal for the team on September 22, 2021, in a 6-1 La Liga defeat to Real Madrid.

In the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Lee was selected to play for the South Korean U-20 football squad. As the top player in the competition, he was given the Golden Ball award.

Senior Team

In March 2019 for friendlies against Bolivia and Colombia, Lee received his first call-up to the senior South Korean national football team. He moved up to the South Korean national football team’s seventh-youngest roster spot. On September 5, 2019, Lee started his first-ever international game against Georgia, which ended in a 2-2 tie. He was also a member of the South Korea National Team team that faced Uruguay on November 24, 2022, in the 2020 FIFA World Cup, which ended in a scoreless draw.
