Pasalic was born in Mainz, Germany, and moved to Croatia when he was a young child. He started out playing football with the local NK GOK Katel Gomilica squad before joining the Hajduk Split youth system in 2006. He first gained notoriety as a young international during the 2011–12 campaign, when he scored 17 goals for the under-17s despite playing in the middle of the field, and when he scored the game-winning goal for the under-19s in a 3-2 victory over Hrvatski Dragovoljac to secure the club’s championship trophy.
Paali, on the other hand, missed the beginning of the 2012–13 season when a staphylococcus infection was discovered during the preseason. He made his professional debut on April 14, 2013, when he came in to replace Ivan Vukovi in a 2-1 victory over Cibalia at home.In the summer of 2013, Paali agreed to a four-year professional contract with Hajduk. During the 2013–14 season, he made 36 appearances across all competitions, making 11 goals and providing five assists. He accomplished this feat twice, once in a 2-1 victory over RNK Split and once on September 14, 2013, when he scored two goals in a 2-0 derby victory over Dinamo Zagreb.
On July 9, 2014, Chelsea revealed that Paali had been acquired for a reputed fee of £3 million. In the 2016 Supercoppa Italiana versus Juventus, Paali converted the game-winning penalty. Milan won their first major trophy since 2011, following a 1-1 draw in the regular-season match. (4-5 sanctions). On February 8, 2017, Milan defeated Bologna 1-0 thanks to Paali’s 89th-minute goal. In Milan’s 1-1 away tie with Pescara on April 2, Paali scored an equalizer.
On July 25, 2018, Paali consented to sign with Atalanta on a season-long loan with the possibility of purchase. On July 4, 2019, Pasalic extended his contract with Chelsea till 2022. and will return to Atalanta on loan for a second season. He was not, however, selected for the winning squad. He replaced Mario Manduki in his Croatian debut on September 4, 2014. That happened in a friendly victory over Cyprus at home. Since May 2018, he has been named to Croatia’s first 32-man roster.
