Max was born on the 13th of January 1993 in Hemel Hampstead. In brief, he is the son of Madeleine Whitlock and the son of Brian Whitlock.

Max Whitlock | Professional Beginnings

At the age of seven, one of Max’s swimming club friends introduced him to gymnastics. He has since enrolled at the Sapphire School of Gymnastics in Hemel Hempstead.

Whitlock consistently followed his coach to Maribor to continue training after the age of twelve. Similarly, he joined South Essex Gymnastic Club in Basildon after three months of training. Finally, Max attended Longdean School in Hemel Hempstead, thanks to coach Scott Hann.

Nonetheless, Whitlock won gold on pommel horse and floor at the age of 17. He also finished second overall at the Junior European Championships in Birmingham.

Senior Professional Position

As a result of his professional career beginning at the age of 17, Max was selected to compete in the Commonwealth Games in 2010. He won silver in the men’s artistic all-around team event there.

He also won silver in the men’s pommel horse and bronze in the men’s horizontal bar. Max Whitlock was eligible to play for the British men’s national team until 2011.

As a result, he attended the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Summer Olympic Games

Max joined Britain’s gymnastics team shortly after competing in the global Championships. Meanwhile, the team was in London for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Whitlock also competed in the 2013 European Championship. The young athlete won gold in floor exercise and silver in individual all-around competition.

In addition, the Olympian won bronze in the pommel horse with a score of 15.500.

Similarly, he and his four teammates won silver at the 2014 European Championship in Sofia. Max even took gold in the pommel horse. Whitlock competed in the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships in Nanning, China, the same year.

Despite some difficulties in qualifying, Max later competed as a replacement for one of his teammates who suffered a wrist injury. After all, he had to settle for a silver medal against Kohei Uchimura to win his fifth World All-Around Championship.

Games of the Commonwealth

Whitlock won gold with his teammates at the Commonwealth Games at the same time, including artistic individuals from all over the world.

In total, he won his third gold medal in the Men’s Floor final and a silver medal in the Pommel Horse final. Similarly, bronze is the final position in the parallel bars.

Glasgow

Whitlock did, however, compete in the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow. Max qualified for the individual all-around final despite some mistakes during the qualification rounds.

Although Whitlock did not compete as a team that year, they finished strongly on the Floor to earn a spot for the top eight players. On the whole, he won the silver medal on the floor. In fact, he won a gold medal, becoming the first British man to win the pommel horse World Championship. His other teammate to compete individually won the silver medal.

He won the all-around title at the Glasgow World Cup in 2016, with the highest floor and pommel horse scores.

Injuries | Max Whitlock

Whitlock was forced to withdraw from the Great Britain squad during the European Championships in Bern, Switzerland, in 2015.

Likewise, he did not compete in the floor exercise or pommel horse events at the World Championships in Montpellier, France.
