Vernyayev was born in Donetsk, Ukraine, on September 29, 1993. His parents are Yuri Vernyayev and Tetiana Vernyayev. He has no brothers or sisters.

At the 2011 Summer Universiade, Oleg competed in the men’s vault final. He finished seventh with a score of 15.262.

Oleg also competed in the team all-around event at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, alongside Nikolai Kuksenkov, Oleg Stepko, Vitaliy Nakonechnyi, Roman Zozula, and Igor.
