After playing a number of supporting roles on television, Penny Marshall is an American actress, voice actor, producer, and director best known for playing Laverne DeFazio in the comedy Happy Days.

The success of the actress’s performance led to the development of the Laverne & Shirley spin-off comedy. She also took on the role of DeFazio for the duration of the program, from 1976 to 1983.

Marjorie Irene Masciarelli and Anthony “Tony” Masciarelli welcomed Penny Marshall into the world in 1943. She was born in the city of New York, in the state of New York. In the Bronx, at 3235 Grand Concourse, she spent her formative years. She attended the University of New Mexico and also received her diploma from Walton High School.

Anthony was a manager of industrial films who eventually transitioned into production, whilst Marjorie was a tap dance instructor and the head of the Marjorie Marshall Dance School. This actress is well-known for being the sister of both television producer Ronny Hallin and actor Garry Marshall.

Furthermore, on the Marshall stand-in billboard, Farrah Fawcett scratched out “Homely” and added “Plain,” sensing Marshall’s nervousness about her appearance.

She became well-known for her work on television after playing Myrna Turner on The Odd Couple in regular guest roles (from 1971 to 1975).

Marshall was cast as Janice Dreyfuss, Paul Dreyfuss’s sister-in-law in the 1974 television series Paul Sand in Friends and Lovers by Allan Burns and James L. Brooks, the show’s executive producers.
