Davidson has been open about his medical and psychological problems. Also he has been using marijuana to treat his Crohn’s disease symptoms since receiving his diagnosis in his late teens.

He took a hiatus from SNL in 2016 to pursue sobriety because he thought his excessive use of marijuana and alcohol was the cause of his frequent mental breakdowns.  however, he  notice that his negativity deteriorated after he left.
