Timing 2003–2004

Getzlaf, who played for the Hitmen this season, scored 75 points in just 49 games. He was thus selected for the WHL’s inaugural all-star squad.

2004–2005 season

Getzlaf rejoined the Hitmen during the NHL lockout to begin his fourth junior hockey season.

He was the team captain, but due to multiple misconduct penalties for disagreeing with the officials, he was temporarily removed from that role. After a week, he regained his position and continued to interact with the referees in a reasonable manner.

Dion Phaneuf struck Getzlaf during a game against the Red Deer Rebels that same season, causing Getzlaf to get a concussion. He ended the regular season with 54 points in 51 games after his injury had healed.

He was then sent to the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League (AHL) for their own postseason run after the Hitmen were bounced from the WHL playoffs.

Getzlaf made his professional debut for Cincinnati in 10 postseason games, recording one goal and four assists.

Ducks of Anaheim, 2005

The top-scoring unit for the Ducks during their run to the Stanley Cup Finals in the 2007 playoffs was their “kid line.”

With 17 points, a franchise playoff record, the Ducks, led by Getzlaf, defeated the Ottawa Senators in the decisive series. As a result, this was the first Stanley Cup victory in the history of the Anaheim franchise.

The year 2008

The Ducks’ “kid line” was broken apart prior to the 2007–08 season when Penner agreed to a restricted free agency contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Getzlaf chose to stay in Anaheim, though, and agreed to a five-year, $26.625 million agreement that would go through the 2012–13 campaign.

Getzlaf competed in his first All-Star Game and led the Ducks in assists (58) and points (100). (82).

2008 to 2009

He was named the NHL’s rookie of the year by his supporters, and as such, he started every game. But in the 2009 playoffs, the Ducks were defeated in the second round.

The 2010–2011 period

Randy Carlyle, the head coach of the Ducks, attributed Getlaf’s promotion to his development as an NHL player. Getzlaf’s season was difficult since he suffered multiple nasal sinus fractures as a result of being hit in the face by a puck this year.

He also finished the NHL lockout-shortened 2012–13 season with 49 points, 15 goals, and a tie for the club lead with 34 assists.

He did play in the first game of the series, but the next two were missed because of an unspecified “upper-body injury.”

The Ducks were ultimately defeated by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round, despite his return for the last games and his 15 points in 12 postseason contests.

This year (2015)

Getzlaf broke his own record for the Ducks’ most assists in the 2015 postseason with 14. He provided the main assist on Simon Després’ game-winning goal on May 22 against the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.

2016 to 2017

Along with Mark Giordano, a defender for the Calgary Flames, and Nick Foligno, a forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Getzlaf was a finalist for the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2017.

After that, Getzlaf tied Teemu Selänne’s franchise record of 35 playoff goals in Game 4 of the best-of-seven 2017 playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers.

Additionally, Getzlaf was penalized $10,000 for insulting an on-ice referee with a homophobic term. He afterwards said the following in response to it.

“It is my obligation to be aware that we are constantly being watched and recorded. Thank goodness no one heard it.

I’m sorry, but it’s a little bit harder if you can read lips. You won’t hear from me again about that. I sincerely hope I didn’t insult anyone outside of our trusted group.
