On October 30, 1981, Stephen Peacocke was born in Dubbo, New South Wales, to former accountant Gareth Peacocke and his wife, Sylvia Peacocke. He has a very tight relationship with his older brother.
Before completing his senior schooling at a Bathurst boarding school, the artist attended South Dubbo schools. He went on to the University of Newcastle to study communications, where he took a theater class taught by Glenn Hazeldine, who encouraged him to pursue a career in acting.

Stephen Peacocke took different jobs in his twenties while seeking to establish his acting career, including unloading freight trucks and working as a jackaroo for $3 an hour. He used to play rugby with the Dubbo Kangaroos but had to retire due to injury.
