How did Raymond Van Barneveld get his start in the game of darts?

Every Friday when Raymond was a kid, his father would take him to the Haag’s “Entertainer” bar. Raymond used to play darts in the bar. Raymond was only 13 years old.

When Raymond was sixteen, he went back to the bar. He requested a dartboard for his birthday in 1984, and ever since then, he has become obsessed.

Jan Brouwers was the person who noticed Raymond. He used to frequent the bar on Saturday nights when dart tournaments were taking place.

At the time, Brouwers was a first-class player, whereas Raymond played in the third level. However, Brouwers approached Raymond and expressed his opinion that Raymond was a top-tier talent.

He also extended Raymond his help. Jan also offered to pay for and travel with Raymond to the competitions in Holland.

Raymond quickly obtained his father’s approval and spent the next three years living with Jan.

BDO Career, Raymond Van Barneveld

As a 17-year-old in his first year, Barney triumphed in his maiden contest, the Rotterdam Open. From that point on, Barney was praised among his fellow citizens as a young prodigy.

He later joined the international darts circuit and advanced to the Dutch and Belgian Open quarterfinals.

Barney made his World Championship debut at the Lakeside Country Club during the 1991 Embassy World Championship.

Barney’s debut, however, was cut short when Keith Sullivan soundly defeated him. In the early 1990s, he also started to gain popularity on the BDO tour.

4 World Championships

After losing in the second round of the 1996 and 1997 World Championships, Barney triumphed in his maiden world title match against Richie Burnett in 1998.

The next year, the Dutch player was successful in defending his title. Barney won by the same margin as the year before in the match against Ronnie Baxter.

Raymond Van Barneveld (Source: Instagram)

The same goes with Raymond, who lost in the quarterfinals in 2001 and 2002 before making it to the final in 2003. Ritchie Davies of Wales was defeated 6-3 by the player to win his third world championship.

In addition, a fourth title was released in 2005. Raymond eliminated Mike Veitch, Gary Anderson, and Vincent van der Voort in the first three rounds without dropping a set.

After defeating Darryl Fitton 5-3 in the semifinals and Englishman Martin Adams 6-2 in the final, Barney won his fourth championship.

British Open Title for Raymond Van Barneveld’s PDC Career

In the UK Open’s championship match in June, Barney triumphed over Barrie Bates. He had just won his first significant PDC championship.

One of his objectives, which he proclaimed after transferring to the PDC, was accomplished when he defeated Phil Taylor in the quarterfinals earlier.

Additionally, two weeks later, Barneveld defeated Phil Taylor in the semifinals of the Las Vegas Desert Classic 2006.

2012 Grand Slam of Darts

Barney won the non-ranking Grand Slam of Darts in November 2012. It was his first significant contest in more than five years.

He overcame Mark Walsh 5-0 in his opening group match before losing 5-4 to darts champion Christian Kist in his second.

But after falling behind 2-0, he came back to defeat Wayne Jones 5-2 to get to the knockout round.

In the round of 16, Barney upset fellow Dutchman Wesley Harms 10-4 before defeating Kist 16-10 to avenge his quarterfinal setback.

In the semifinal match, he also overcame Andy Hamilton 16-10, setting up a Dutch-versus-Dutch final against Grand Prix champion Michael van Gerwen.

First Division

During the Premier League era, Barney displayed some of his most reliable darting, going 12 matches without losing and coming in second place.

After 21 tries, he finally defeated Phil Taylor in the event semifinals, coming back from a 4-1 deficit to win 8-5.

The Dutch player had lost at this level the previous six years and had never advanced past the semifinals of the competition.

Similar to this, Raymond also went on to defeat Michael van Gerwen in the championship match, winning 10-6 after taking four straight legs from a 5-5 tie. Also like about Peter Wright

Retiring and Returning

Barney was eliminated in the second round of the 2019 PDC Championship by Darius Labanauskas.

The Dutch player was also given the opportunity to participate in the 2019 Premier League Darts, but was eliminated after nine games after placing last in the standings.

Barneveld announced his immediate retirement on March 28 after being defeated, only to change his mind the next day.

After losing 3-1 to American Darin Young in the PDC Championship 2020 opening round—a result he claimed he could “never forgive” himself for—he made his retirement announcement.

On September 23, 2020, Raymond said that he was reconsidering his plan to retire and that he wanted to participate in the PDC Q-School for 2021.

The Dutch player, who prevailed on points, advanced to the second round of Q-school after winning, and on the last day, he secured his two-year tour card by placing third on the Order of Merit.

At the third attempt, Barneveld triumphed in his first match since his comeback on February 27 at the Players Championship 3 in Bolton.

His first solo PDC championship and first ranking trophy since the 2014 Premier League came from his 8-6 triumph over Joe Cullen.

Life of Raymond Van Barneveld

The darts player and Sylvia Van Barneveld were wed. Mike Van Barneveld, Daisy Van Barneveld, and Patty Van Barneveld were the couple’s three children.

However, the pair chose to divorce after 25 years of marriage. Raymond and his wife are now going through a divorce.

Silvia and Raymond are currently living apart. The primary cause of the divorce is Raymond’s constant absence from home.

2018’s summer saw Sylvia suffer a home invasion and robbery. She was additionally being held by the criminals at gunpoint. Since then, she has struggled to maintain mental calm.

Due to his profession, the darts player is unable to show his wife love, affection, and protection.

Girlfriend

The darts player spends his time with his new girlfriend. Currently, Raymond is seeing a British man named Julia Evans.

At a Southampton darts competition, the two first met, and they hit it off right away. Julia is the player’s assistant manager as well.

Before Raymond and Julia made their romance public, pictures of them sharing a kiss in a hotel lobby went viral.

Raymond with his girlfriend, Julia Evans (Source: Instagram)

The birthday of my life’s love, Julia, is today. Big Kisses and Hugs from Germany to Julia as well as a happy birthday. I love you so much.

They have not yet gotten married. When asked about marriage, Julia said she was quite compatible with Raymond and enjoyed the thought of spending her later years with him.

Despite the fact that they marry, Raymond is opposed to them having kids together. Raymond is already a grandfather because his children are already expecting.

He indicated that having children today would be strange and uncomfortable for him. Fortunately, Julia agrees with Raymond’s viewpoint. Additionally, she has no desire to have children.
