Bowles immediately signed his first professional contract, which included a $9000 signing bonus. Todd had to contend with fierce competition right away to earn a spot on the team.

On September 8, 1987, the Redskins fired Jordan and gave Todd Bowles the free safety position for one more year. In the Super Bowl XXII, Todd Bowles benefited the team as the starting free safety.
