Thomas Mikal Ford is credited with popularizing the name “Tommy Ford.” On June 15, 1964, he was born in Yonkers, New York. His mother worked as a school secretary, and his father was a pipefitter. His upbringing was in California. Tommy graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree.

When he was younger, he aspired to be a preacher, but he later took theatrical courses and started acting in school plays.
