Ulis wanted to relocate to a larger area for his education because he had spent a large portion of his life in a small Lima city. He consequently relocated to Matteson, Illinois, where he went to Marian Catholic High School.

Being only 5 feet 3 inches tall and competing against Tracy Abrams in his freshman year, Ulis received little attention. Up until his senior year of high school, success wasn’t at all simple.
