A wise man once described mixed martial art as something which does not require much talent but pure hard work and obsession. If we follow the journey of a popular mixed martial artist, Vicente Luque, the description pretty much sounds justifiable.

Yes, Vicente Luque is a house of talent, but he would not have reached where he is today if he didn’t have mad love and passion for mixed martial art.

Today, he stands tall as a proud mixed martial artist affiliated with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). UFC is a mixed martial art promotion company based in Nevada, United States.

He competes in the welterweight division of the UFC. The UFC has divided the fighters into several classes based on their weight. The welterweight division comprises fighters weighing between 156 to 170 lb.

Luque deserves everything that he owns today. His journey was not a fairytale. He might have had hundreds of highs, but they came along with even more lows.

Now, let’s explore Vicente Luque’s journey without sidelining anything important from personal and professional life.

Vicente Luque – Childhood and Family

Vicente Luque was born in Westwood, New Jersey, on November 15, 1991. He was born in Chile to Pepe Luque, a Chilean father, and Maria Aparecida, a Brazilian mother.

His grandmother worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brazil. Her job required her to relocate frequently. She and her daughter, Maria, relocated to Chile from Brazil.

Vicente Luque’s parents then met, fell in love, and married. Their marriage, however, was doomed to fail. Vicente was six years old when his parents divorced.

While his parents were still married, the entire family relocated to New Jersey, United States. Vicente was born during their stay.

Vicente’s family returned to Brasilia when he was six years old. Even though he was born in the United States, he grew up there and considered it his hometown.

He refers to himself as a Brasiliense and vows to always fight for Brasilia. Furthermore, Vicente Luque believes that his hometown is fortunate for him and that fighting there is always preferable.

Luque spent his childhood in a variety of countries. His family then forced him to learn different languages. In fact, he speaks Spanish, English, and Portuguese fluently.

While living in the United States, he recalls speaking Portuguese with his grandmother and mother, Spanish with his father and his side of the family, and English with his friends.

When they returned to Brasilia, his English command improved even more, thanks to his mother’s personal tutoring.

Vicente Luque – Beginning of a Mixed Martial Arts Career

Vicente Luque learned various forms of martial arts as a child. During his adolescence, he also studied Muay Thai, kickboxing, and jiu-jitsu. In 2008, Vicente Luque decided to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.

And In June 2009, he made his professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) debut.

In early 2014, he became involved with The Ultimate Fighter. However, he already had a 7-4-1 MMA record while competing for various regional promotions in Brazil.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (TUF)

Luque was chosen as a fighter for The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians in February 2015. He established himself as an essential member of the Blackzilians squad.

Glenn Robinson, the owner of the Blackzilians, had a lot of faith in Luque. In fact, he considered Luque to be a champion.

Vicente Luque competed against Nathan Coy of Oregon State University, an All-American wrestler. In the feud, Coy represented the American Top Team. It was a raging feud. It lasted three rounds.

Luque dominated the first round, while Coy outperformed him in the second. The contest was then decided in the third round. Vicente Luque won the fight, earning the Blackzilians 50 points.

Hayder Hassan of the American Top Team was sent to compete against Vicente Luque in the Semifinals. Luque gave an excellent performance but was unable to win. He was defeated by a split decision.

TUF, on the other hand, recognized Luque as a champion and gave him a UFC fight in the finale.

First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord, as well as all of the MMA fans who have always been there for me! I’ll go in there and take action. #UFCVegas5
