He made $46 million as an NHL salary during the course of his NHL career. The Racers’ owner Nelson Skalbanai signed Gretzky, then 17 years old, to a seven-year personal services deal worth US$1.75 million in the World Hockey Association after seeing him play as the most promising young prospect.
